In its first concert of 2010, Encore Music Forum presents "More Than Music", a special night of Hip-Hop and Classical music. Produced with the Los Angeles New Music Ensemble, the program features DJ Journey and MC MoeRoc. The concert will be held at the C. Bechstein Piano Centre, 207 West 58th Street (between Broadway and 7th Avenue) on April 15th at 8 pm. Tickets will be $10 at the door.
"More Than Music" is not only a straightforward fusion of Hip-Hop and Classical music, but also an exploration of each of the genres’ individual attributes and their application to each other in search of new musical possibilities: intricate compositional techniques accompanied by turntablism, rap lyrics over experimental synthesized textures, and operatic voices led by heavy kick drums and snares. Moreover, "More Than Music" is a program composed for challenging times with a vision of a more positive future.
Founded in 2007 by director Dr. Christina Giacona, the Los Angeles New Music Ensemble is an innovative chamber music ensemble focused on promoting new compositions, breaking the barriers of contemporary works, and becoming the leading voice of the Los Angeles new music scene. DJ Journey, having made a name playing at A-List parties in New York City and Los Angeles (Emmy and Grammy Awards After Party, Diesel Plant Store NYC, Adidas Original Store, and many others), is one of the most sought-after DJs in the music industry right now. MoeRoc, who is recognized for his involvement with the Wu-Tang Clan’s executive team, will be bringing some of the most energetic and thought-provoking lyrics of recent times. Also on-board will be Sophia May, beautiful singer and songwriter from the United Kingdom, who has been topping the Billboard Dance charts with her hit songs “I Can’t Help Myself” and “Another Day.”
Music for the evening include works by Patrick Conlon, Eric V. Hachikian, Dan Formidoni, and Mary Kouyoumdjian.
This will be Encore Music Forum’s fifth concert. EMF4 (November 2009), produced with jazz bassist Linda Oh, was very successful and was met with great reviews. Past programs featured artists such as Brandee Younger, Bioluminescence (R. Luke DuBois and Lesley Flanigan), Linda Oh, Kalin Ivanov, Trevor Gureckis, Angélica Negrón, Eric V. Hachikian, and Marlon Daniel. Currently, Encore Music Forum is focused on expanding the creative limits of music in future concerts for 2010 and beyond.
